What is Song City?
SONG CITY is a international songwriters week. At the end of the week all participating songwriters feature at the Song City live concert. They perform their own material (biggest hits) and new songs they've co-written with the other attending artists during that week.
Eight songsmiths, four international and 4 Belgian, are locked up for one week. There's only one task: write beautiful, fantastic, emotional songs! Food and drinks are only given on few occasions... nothing should keep them from doing what has been ordered... write the ultimate song. (for those who didn't catch it... everything about the songs is true... the locking up, food and drinks... a joke)
The selection of the songwriters was done on the basis of their experiences regarding such a creative process (not everyone is capable to write songs together with others) and on their live-performing skills.... and ofcourse... their fame.
As far as we know, this combiniation of writing and performing is unique. Certainly for Belgium, probably for the world.
At simular initiatives throughout the world it's seldom that such big artists participate and it's certainly so that they don't perform live after an intensive week of songwriting.
That's what makes Song City so special: on sunday evening everybody can hear songs for the very very first time in public. Worldpremieres à gogo!
The maidentrip of Song City, last year july, was an instant success. A gathering of sparkling artists, over 25 songs were written (of which 16 demo's were recorded at once at the portable demo-studio), various song were placed at record or publishing labels and some of them were immediately recorded in a studio. Four tracks, written at Song City appear on the Stan Van Samang debut album (which climbed the charts) and two of them became singles, two tracks feature on the new Milow album (one of them released as a single as well) and more of the Song City songs are expected on the new Barbara Dex album.
Over 4.000 people came to the fantastic concert where international and Belgian artists performed side by side. For images we point to our Blog.
The unique aspect of Song City is that the project never ends. In contrary to concerts (reviews just before and just after the event), Song City stays in the focus of everyone. The songs start a life after the event and create story of themselves always linked to Song City.
Thanks to the 2007 successtory we are now ready - with the help of new and old partners who believe and contribute in many ways to the project - to organize a dazling follow up this year.

Guestartists...
Tijdens de schrijfweek vragen we op bepaalde dagen ook de aanwezigheid van artiesten die één dag met de Song City groep willen samen schrijven- of werken en songs ‘op maat' te (laten) maken. Tijdens de 2007 editie waren o.a. Erik Melaerts, Barbara Dex en Jerry ‘Philadephia' Ricks te gast. Voor de nieuwe editie hebben we al een lijstje klaar. Hou onze blog in de gaten!
